Linda Goodman ruined Peter Pan for me; too many kids in school thought Love Signs was the word of God, and she had a knack for picking out the most twee bits of Barrie to go with Virgo Man, Libra Woman or Gemini Woman, Pisces Man or whatever. (Has anyone done a Love Signs for the gay and lesbian community, incidentally? Or are the planets irredeemably politically incorrect?)
The copyright holders to J M Barrie’s Peter Pan have just commissioned Geraldine McCaughrean to write the sequel; she’s pretty talented, so this might be the last chance I get to read about Wendy and Captain Hook (would’ve been kind of nice if those two had got it on) without fwowing up.
Anthony Hope (“Zenda”) Hawkins said it best when he reviewed the opening night of PP and lamented, “Oh for an hour of Herod!”.
It worked the other way around with me – I was intrigued by the quotes in Linda Goodman and picked up Peter Pan.
